1952 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Recreation Set for Auction From Henderson Auctions

A striking 1952 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante re-creation is set to cross the auction block at the Henderson Collector Motor Series Auction on May 3, 2025, hosted at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham.

The car, built on chassis AR10218000031, is a tribute to one of Alfa Romeo’s most visually distinctive and historically significant designs. Originally developed by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, the Disco Volante—Italian for “flying saucer”—was renowned for its futuristic styling and lightweight construction. Only a handful of originals were produced, making authentic examples nearly unobtainable.

This re-creation honors that design heritage with meticulous attention to detail. Hand-formed aluminum bodywork reflects the original’s flowing aerodynamic lines, while period-correct design cues capture the essence of early 1950s Italian motorsport innovation. Built on a classic Alfa Romeo chassis, the car delivers both the aesthetic and driving charm of the postwar performance icon.

This particular example is expected to draw significant interest from collectors looking to acquire a show-stopping centerpiece with historical allure and concours-level appeal—at a fraction of the cost of an original.

Henderson Auction’s Collector Motor Series sale will be held at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum on Saturday, May 3, 2025 starting at 6:30pm. The Barber Museum and racing facilities have welcomed millions of hardcore vintage car and motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world making this venue the perfect backdrop to showcase your vehicles. We are excited that our May 3, 2025, auction will be held during the Children’s of Alabama INDY GRAND PRIX this year!
