1960 Bentley S2 Drophead Coupe by Mulliner Heads to Auction

A rare and exquisite 1960 Bentley S2 Drophead Coupe by H.J. Mulliner is now available for sale through a dealer in St. Louis, Missouri. This particular model is one of only 15 ever built with drophead coupe coachwork by H.J. Mulliner and was notably constructed for display at the New York International Auto Show in March 1960. Chassis B75LBR, configured in left-hand drive, boasts a fascinating history and a freshening completed in 2021.

Originally delivered to a Wall Street securities analyst, the car moved to California with its second owner and remained there until the mid-1990s. The current owner, who purchased the vehicle in 2016, has maintained it meticulously. The Bentley is finished in a classic white exterior with a tan convertible top and matching tan upholstery, exuding timeless elegance.

Under the hood, this S2 is powered by a replacement 6.2-liter V8 engine with twin SU carburetors, paired with an automatic transmission. The power-assisted steering, servo-assisted drum brakes, and adjustable lever-arm shock absorbers ensure a smooth and responsive driving experience. The car also features power windows, air conditioning, and a His Master’s Voice radio, blending classic luxury with modern conveniences.

The interior is adorned with tan leather, wood trim, and color-keyed carpeting. Despite its age, the cabin has been well-preserved, with door panels and other upholstery elements refreshed in 2021. The Bentley also retains its original Smiths instrumentation, showcasing a 120-mph speedometer, a clock, and a combination gauge for oil pressure, amperage, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The odometer reads 43,000 miles, with only 20 miles added by the selling dealer.

This Bentley S2 Drophead Coupe rides on 15-inch steel wheels with chrome covers and BFGoodrich wide-whitewall tires. The 2021 refresh also included a rebuilt servo, new master cylinders, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. The factory build sheet and Schoellkopf cards, along with Canadian registration, accompany the sale, providing a comprehensive history of this distinguished vehicle.
