The Porsche 904 Carrera GTS was a pivotal model for the marque, representing a transition from Porsche’s classic race cars of the 1950s to a new era of high-performance vehicles. The 904 featured an innovative fiberglass body construction, a first for Porsche, combined with a steel box frame. This construction not only provided lightweight durability but also set the stage for future advancements in automotive design.

Finished in its original Signal Red over Blue upholstery, the car was ordered with a 180 PS Type 587/3 four-cam engine and a Sebring race exhaust system, underscoring its racing pedigree. Fernández utilized this car extensively in regional hill climbs, rallies, and circuit races, amassing numerous victories and earning the nickname “El Rey de Las Montañas” or “The King of the Mountains.”
