1965 Porsche 356 C Coupe Highlights Carlisle Auctions With Upgrades and Long-Term Ownership

Collectors will have the opportunity to bid on one of Porsche’s most historically significant models when a 1965 Porsche 356 C Coupe crosses the block at Carlisle Auctions, Lot #234. As the final model year for the 356, the C series holds a special place in Porsche history, representing the culmination of the company’s first production car line.

This particular example has been owned by the same caretaker for the past 23 years, a rarity in the collector market. It features a freshly rebuilt, numbers-matching engine with just 3,000 miles since completion. The rebuild included upgrades to SC specifications with a counter-weighted crankshaft, SC camshaft, 1,750-cc pistons, and twin two-barrel Zenith carburetors, delivering improved drivability and performance.

A rebuilt four-speed manual transmission with new synchronizer rings and a taller fourth gear enhances highway cruising. Notably, the 356 C was the only version of the model line equipped with 911-type four-wheel disc brakes, a significant advance over the drums used on earlier versions.

The car has received thoughtful updates including a Skirmants camber regulator, a Zim dual-circuit brake master cylinder, and a 12-volt electrical conversion. Inside, new Paterek-installed dash foam, refurbished gauges with LED lighting, and reconditioned seats and sun visors add to its presentation. Auxiliary gauges and grille-mounted LED brake lights can be easily removed for show display.

Offered with extensive extras—including Solex 40 PII carburetors and manifolds, Porsche AG Kardex documentation, and a PCNA certificate—this 356 presents as both a well-preserved driver and a collector-grade offering.

As the last of its line and enhanced with desirable upgrades, this 1965 Porsche 356 C Coupe is expected to generate strong interest when bidding begins at Carlisle Auctions. See it here.
