A beautifully preserved example of British open-air motoring is set to go under the hammer at the upcoming Henderson Collector Motor Series Auction on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The featured car, a 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8, will be offered at the prestigious Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, Alabama.

The 3000 BJ8 represents the final and most refined evolution of Austin-Healey’s celebrated “Big Healey” lineup. Produced from 1964 to 1967, the BJ8 Mk III was known for its improved powertrain, upgraded interior, and grand touring comfort, making it one of the most desirable British sports cars of its era.
Under the hood, the 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 features a 2.9-liter inline-six engine delivering 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque—performance figures that, at the time, made it a formidable rival to other European roadsters. A four-speed manual transmission with overdrive allows for long-distance cruising, while front disc brakes and a revised rear suspension layout offered enhanced drivability.

Visual appeal remains one of the model’s most enduring strengths. With its flowing lines, signature front grille, and wire-spoke wheels, the 3000 BJ8 is instantly recognizable. Inside, the cabin features a wood-veneer dashboard, Smiths gauges, and improved weather protection with roll-up windows and a well-insulated convertible top—amenities that helped the BJ8 earn acclaim as a true grand touring roadster.
This 1967 example arrives at auction as a celebrated piece of Austin-Healey history, representing the marque’s swan song before production ended in late 1967. With British charm, strong collector interest, and enduring driving pleasure, the BJ8 stands as a must-have for vintage European car enthusiasts.
