A 1967 Lamborghini Miura, celebrated as one of the finest examples of the legendary supercar, is poised to take center stage at Bonhams’ Scottsdale Auction on January 25. With an impeccable restoration history and a string of prestigious awards, this Miura is projected to fetch between $2.2 million and $2.8 million.
Chassis No. 3057, the 39th Miura ever built, rolled off the Lamborghini production line in 1967 and was initially sold to American enthusiast Ben Johnson. Johnson embarked on a grand European tour in the car before shipping it to the U.S., where it spent much of the 1970s in storage following his untimely death. In 1978, the Miura found a new lease on life when Dr. Dean Aberman, a passionate Lamborghini Club of America member, purchased it. Aberman drove the car extensively, clocking memorable journeys along the Pacific Coast Highway and participating in iconic events like the Concorso Italiano.
Fast forward to 2015, the Miura was sold at auction for just over $1 million to Michael Weinreb, a Los Angeles-based collector renowned for his meticulous restorations. Encouraged by Lamborghini legend Valentino Balboni, Weinreb commissioned an exhaustive restoration to concours standards, enlisting top-tier experts, including Jeff Stephan, Debbie Motors, Palmer Coachworks, and Ed Pink Racing Engines.
The restoration, completed in under a year to coincide with the Miura’s 50th anniversary, included a full engine rebuild, upgrading the 3.9-liter V-12 to produce over 400 horsepower. Over $250,000 was invested in bodywork and repainting, ensuring the car’s condition matched its elite status.
Since its restoration, the Miura has claimed numerous accolades, including Best in Show at Concorso Italiano in 2017 and 2023, and Best Restored Miura at The Quail in 2017. With only 33,870 miles on the odometer, this historic Lamborghini now awaits a new chapter with a fortunate collector.
“After 10 years, it’s time for someone else to experience this masterpiece,” says Weinreb. For Lamborghini enthusiasts, this is a rare chance to own a piece of automotive perfection.
