This particular Hurst/Olds is no replica. It served as the 14th official pace car for the 1972 Indianapolis 500, a year when Oldsmobile partnered with Hurst Performance to deliver one of the most distinctive and muscular pace cars in the race’s long tradition. Finished in the recognizable White-and-Gold color scheme, this one-owner example has been preserved with remarkable authenticity.
Under the hood sits Oldsmobile’s 455 cubic-inch V-8, paired with an automatic transmission. Performance features include the Hurst dual gate shifter, power steering, and power brakes, offering both muscle and drivability. Comfort options such as air conditioning, power windows, a power top, and bucket seats with a center console reflect the car’s unique blend of performance and luxury.
The Hurst/Olds Pace Car convertibles of 1972 are particularly sought after for their rarity and their direct link to motorsport. Unlike some other pace cars that were built in large commemorative numbers, the Hurst/Olds editions were produced in limited quantities, and their association with the Brickyard only increases their desirability.

This example is offered with its Protect-O-Plate and has recently received fresh door decals to restore its original presentation. For collectors, the chance to acquire a genuine pace car with single-owner provenance makes this offering especially significant.
With its powerful 455 V-8, unmistakable livery, and Indianapolis legacy, the 1972 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds Pace Car convertible represents both American performance history and racing heritage, making it one of the headline consignments at this year’s Indy Fall Special. See it here.
