One of the rarest and most opulent creations from Mercedes-Benz, a 1974 600 Six-Door Pullman Landaulet, is set to be auctioned at Sotheby’s Paris in February 2025. This “six-door, short-roof” example is a testament to bespoke craftsmanship and unparalleled exclusivity, with an estimated value of €1,300,000 to €1,600,000.
Delivered new to Portuguese Guinea (now Guinea-Bissau) during its revolutionary era, this vehicle served as an official state limousine. Only 26 long-wheelbase six-door Landaulets were ever produced, and each was handcrafted by Mercedes-Benz’s top craftsmen. This particular car is unique, featuring middle-door exterior handles and a “short-roof” configuration.
Originally finished in Black (040) with black leather upholstery, it was equipped with premium features, including a Becker Grand Prix TR radio, a Tekade car phone, and flagpole mounts for state use. After serving in Africa, the car journeyed through California and Germany, where it underwent significant restoration by Kienle Automobiltechnik in 2019. This work included complete rebuilds of the engine, gearbox, and hydraulic systems, totaling over €280,000.
The car now shines in a period-correct White (050) exterior, paired with red leather upholstery and a black Landaulet top. Its striking aesthetics and historical significance make it a centerpiece for collectors.
Regarded as a pinnacle of luxury, the 600 Pullman Landaulet was the choice of world leaders and celebrities, including royalty and heads of state. Its exclusivity, state-of-the-art hydraulics, and unmatched craftsmanship solidified its status as the ultimate symbol of prestige.
This extraordinary vehicle represents the height of automotive opulence and offers a glimpse into a bygone era of bespoke state limousines. Prospective buyers and admirers can view it at Sotheby’s Paris ahead of its auction date on February 5, 2025.
