For many automotive enthusiasts, owning a true racecar is on their bucket list. And while many never achieve the worthy goal, someone will have the shot at this 1976 Porsche 934 Turbo RSR when it crosses the auction block in late April.
Maintaining an Aston Martin Valkyrie is more expensive than you might think.
Legendary among Porsche enthusiasts, the 934 Turbo RSR was built off the 930 Turbo but was modified significantly for Group 4 GT racing. As the follow-up to the successful Carrera RSR, the 934 RSR notched up quite a few victories itself, both in American Trans Am competitions and on European circuits.
Boasting far more power than road-going turbocharged Porsche 911s of the time, drivers are able to dial up the turbo boost pressure using a dial in the center of the dash. Not everyone is brave enough to turn that dial very far for fear the flat-six in the rear might fail under the increased compression.
As a true racecar, you’ll find the interior of this Porsche 934 Turbo RSR to be appropriately Spartan. However, thanks to a heavier minimum weight regulation, Porsche did retain the power windows and a few other creature comforts.
With a vehicle like this, you not only can enter concours and other high-end shows but also potentially gain entry into historic racing events, if you so dare risk such an acquisition. Or you can take it to a private track where you have access to run hot laps and get a feel for the 934 Turbo RSR’s capabilities.
Broad Arrow will auction this and about 70 other Porsches during The Porsche Auction in Partnership with Air|Water on April 27, 2024 in Costa Mesa, California.
