An exceptionally rare 1984 Porsche 911 SC RS, one of only 21 ever produced for rally racing, is set to headline the Broad Arrow Auctions at the 2024 Chattanooga Motorcar Festival on October 12th. The Porsche 911 SC RS, often referred to as the “Evolutionsserie,” was designed with rally racing in mind and remains one of the most coveted Porsche models. Despite its resemblance to the standard 911, the SC RS was heavily modified for competition. It features lightweight aluminum body panels, fiberglass bumpers, and a stripped-down interior, bringing the car’s weight down to just 2,160 pounds. Powered by a 3.0-liter engine that produces between 250 and 270 horsepower, this race-bred machine can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds, making it a serious contender on the rally circuit.

This particular example, the final SC RS ever built, was initially intended for the South African market but was acquired by Tycho Christian van Dijk’s racing team. It participated in just one rally event, the 1984 Tour de Corse, where it placed 14th out of 158 competitors. With only 5,209 kilometers (about 3,237 miles) on the odometer, this car remains in exceptional condition. Jürgen Barth, a Le Mans winner and a key figure in Porsche’s racing history, has praised the car’s preservation, highlighting its matching-numbers engine and transmission.

In addition to its mechanical pedigree, the SC RS comes with extensive documentation, including a Porsche Classic Technical Certificate, a copy of the factory build sheet, and its 1984 Tour de Corse route books. Its FIA Group B rally specifications, combined with the ability to be registered for road use, make it a standout in the world of vintage race cars.
