A rare 1987 Buick GNX, an exemplar of American muscle car heritage, has surfaced for sale in Connecticut, boasting an astonishingly low 2,200 miles on its odometer. This vehicle, number 274 out of just 547 produced, stands as a testament to the pinnacle of 1980s automotive engineering and design.
Crafted in partnership with McLaren Performance Technologies/ASC, the GNX was developed as a high-performance variant of the Buick Grand National to celebrate the end of its production run. All units were finished in a striking black color, enhancing the car’s already formidable presence.
The GNX distinguishes itself with several unique features, including heat-extracting fender vents, composite wheel arch flares, a three-piece rear spoiler, and exclusive GNX badging. This particular model rides on factory 16-inch cross-lace wheels adorned with GNX-branded center caps, complemented by chrome trim rings and fitted with BFGoodrich g-force Sport Comp2 tires.
Performance upgrades specific to the GNX include a turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine equipped with a Garrett T3 turbocharger and an enhanced air-to-air intercooler. This setup delivers a robust 276 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque. The power is managed by a Turbo-Hydramatic 200R4 four-speed automatic transmission, which includes a factory-upgraded oil cooler and drives the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential sporting a GNX-branded aluminum rear cover.
Inside, the cabin features a luxurious mix of black and Sand Gray upholstery, with Turbo 6 embroidery adorning the front seat headrests. Modern conveniences such as air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, and a Delco AM/FM/cassette stereo with a graphic equalizer ensure a comfortable driving experience. A special plaque on the passenger side dashboard confirms this car’s identity as GNX #274.
This GNX is currently offered by a seller on behalf of the current owner, complete with Buick GNX memorabilia, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Montana title in the name of the owner’s LLC. This sale presents a unique opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to own a piece of automotive history in near-original condition.
