One of the rarest iterations of the De Tomaso Pantera is hitting the auction block this Friday, Feb. 28, at RM Sotheby’s in Miami. This 1991 Pantera 90 Si, one of only 41 ever built, represents the final evolution of the Italian-American sports car before the company ceased production.
Auction estimates place the Pantera’s expected sale price between $150,000 and $200,000, a figure that reflects its rarity, low mileage, and historical significance. Unlike its predecessors, the 90 Si featured a redesigned chassis, updated suspension, and a host of performance upgrades aimed at modernizing the model. This example, originally delivered in Germany, has accumulated just 11,659 miles over the years.
The Pantera first emerged in the early 1970s as a product of De Tomaso’s collaboration with Ford, blending Italian design with American V-8 power. While earlier models relied on a 5.0-liter Ford Mustang engine, this particular 90 Si boasts a 351 Cleveland V-8, a nod to the original Pantera’s roots. It recently underwent mechanical updates, including a new carburetor and distributor, ensuring its roadworthiness.
Adding to its appeal, the car is finished in Giallo (yellow) over a Nero (black) leather interior, maintaining its original factory color scheme. Accompanying documentation includes factory build records, a window sticker, and service invoices spanning over three decades.
With no reserve set, this auction presents a rare opportunity for collectors to acquire a piece of De Tomaso history—one that remains nearly impossible to find in the United States.
