Gooding & Company’s 20th annual Pebble Beach Auction will feature an extraordinary piece of motorsport history: the 1995 Ferrari 333 SP Evoluzione, estimated to fetch between $6,000,000 and $8,000,000. This Ferrari marks the brand’s first purpose-built sports racing prototype in two decades, following the legendary 312 PB. Developed in partnership with Dallara, the 333 SP signaled Ferrari’s return to the highest echelons of international racing.
The Ferrari 333 SP, a technological marvel, was active in eight seasons of racing, achieving remarkable victories at prestigious events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the 12 Hours of Sebring. Chassis 010, one of only nine Evoluzione models constructed by Dallara in Varano, Italy, was initially campaigned by Andy Evans’ Scandia Motorsport team for the 1995 season. Between 1995 and 1997, this particular car secured 13 podium finishes in the IMSA WSC Championships, with notable wins at Halifax, Lime Rock, Pikes Peak, and Sebring. It was driven by renowned racers Mauro Baldi, Fermín Vélez, Andrea Montermini, and Antonio Hermann.
One of the car’s most impressive achievements came at the 1997 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it was entered by the Moretti Racing team and driven by Gianpiero Moretti, Didier Theys, and Max Papis. In its striking MOMO livery, chassis 010 finished 6th Overall and 2nd in Class, marking the best overall finish for a 333 SP in the history of Le Mans.
After a single race in the 1998 season, 010 was sold to a Venezuelan collector before joining James McCormick’s collection. McCormick exhibited the car at the 1999 Ferrari Club of America National Meet in Atlanta, Georgia, and the 2001 Cavallino Classic in Palm Beach, Florida. In 2010, the Ferrari 333 SP was sold to François Perrodo, who maintained the car professionally and used it at select private track events. Most recently, chassis 010 was acquired by an American collector and is now being offered for public sale for the first time.
This Ferrari 333 SP Evoluzione is not only significant due to its illustrious racing history but also because of its eligibility for Ferrari’s exclusive F1 Clienti program and the Endurance Racing Legends series. It represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to own a piece of Ferrari’s racing legacy. As it heads to the auction block at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auction on August 16 and 17, this 333 SP is poised to attract significant attention and command a top-tier price.
