A rare and highly sought-after 2008 Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Roadster, one of only eight U.S. market examples factory-equipped with a gated manual gearbox, will be a highlight at RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction in August 2024. This extraordinary supercar, estimated to sell for between $1,250,000 and $1,750,000 USD, stands out not only for its rarity but also for its striking Oro Adonis finish and Sand Bi-Color leather interior, making it the only one in existence with this unique color combination.

A Rare Gated Manual Lamborghini

The Murciélago LP640 Roadster represents the end of an era for Lamborghini, being among the last models to offer a traditional six-speed manual transmission. As Lamborghini transitioned to more advanced paddle-shift transmissions, manual gearbox-equipped Murciélagos became increasingly rare, particularly in the open-top Roadster variant. This specific example, chassis number 2880, is one of just eight manual Roadsters produced for the U.S. market, making it a true collector’s item.

A Visual and Performance Masterpiece

Designed by Luc Donckerwolke, the Murciélago’s angular and aggressive styling is a testament to Lamborghini’s distinctive design DNA. The LP640 variant, introduced at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, brought significant updates to the model, including a more powerful 6.5-liter V12 engine producing 631 horsepower, enabling the car to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of over 200 mph. The Roadster version, with its manually operated canvas roof, adds an element of drama to the driving experience, especially when the roof is removed to fully enjoy the V12’s symphonic exhaust note.

This particular LP640 Roadster is further enhanced by an extensive carbon fiber package, including a visible carbon fiber engine brace, bonnet underside, wind deflector, and interior trim. The car rides on 18-inch gloss black Hermera wheels, shod in Pirelli P Zero tires, and features color-matched Oro Adonis brake calipers, adding to its already impressive visual appeal. The interior, finished in luxurious Sand Bi-Color leather, includes embossed Lamborghini crests on the headrests and a Kenwood Double DIN Navigational Stereo System for added convenience.

Meticulously Maintained and Ready to Drive

With just 6,276 miles on the odometer, this Murciélago LP640 Roadster has been meticulously maintained, receiving an annual service by Lamborghini of Beverly Hills in July 2023. The service included an oil change and clutch inspection, ensuring that the car is in excellent mechanical condition and ready for its next owner. The car also features protective paint film, preserving its stunning Oro Adonis finish.

A One-of-a-Kind Opportunity

THE ANNUAL RETURN TO MONTEREY CAR WEEK, WHERE EXEMPLARY, REMARKABLE, AND RARE ARE THE RULE WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS

Fewer collaborations or duos as notable as, say, Laurel and Hardy, Schumacher and Ferrari, or even Mercedes-Benz and AMG grace our paths. But one dynamic duo continues its annual return to California’s Monterey Peninsula for its 27th year: Monterey Car Week and RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction held on August 15-17.

2023’s auction brought the much-storied Lost and Found Collection, the ultimate barn find of 20 Ferraris lost to time, including the 1954 Ferrari Mondial Spider Series I by Pinin Farina, which as the second Mondial ever made, even in its stripped-down and fire-stricken condition, made waves in the automotive circles and press when it earned 1.875 million at auction.

Over the course of the 2023 Monterey Car Week, RM Sotheby’s sold five of the top 10 selling cars of the week– more than any other auction house on the peninsula. It further solidifies our commitment to bringing to market pristine and exemplary automobiles as the world’s leading auction house, during a week dedicated to showcasing the very best of the best. Find us again at the Monterey Conference Center for another year of exceptional offerings crossing the block.
