Built to honor the late great Formula One racer Ayrton Senna, arguably one of the greatest drivers to grace a track, this 2019 McLaren Senna is entirely worthy of that storied legacy. Capped at a production of just 500 units globally, this road car is very much at home on the track since it was built with precision performance in mind. Now this unique machine crosses the auction block this weekend and surely will captivate the hearts of many.
A beautiful 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster is also being auctioned at Amelia Island.
No matter what the Senna wears it’s always stunning, but this one in its factory original Abyss Black with Paris Blue accents over Black Alcantara looks particularly striking. From the photos, this one looks nearly perfect and it’s no wonder since the odometer only shows 552 miles.
As a street-legal track toy, McLaren designed the Senna to be both lightweight and powerful. It tips the scale at under 2,700 lbs. and yet packs a tremendous punch via the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 789-bhp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque on tap. Wondrous engineering went into developing a powerplant that provides instant bursts of acceleration, from electronic wastegates to a roof snorkel air intake and even the flat-plane crank giving this supercar an otherworldly aura.
The list of other performance innovations loaded into the McLaren Senna is truly impressive and includes a combination of the suspension technology from the P1 combined with RaceActive Chassis Control II, a hydraulic, adjustable suspension which is both lightweight and speed reactive.
Aero elements work to keep handling stable at high speeds, with the Senna able to achieve 208 mph. It can also do 0-62 in 2.8 seconds and 0-124 in 6.8 seconds. To balance out that explosive acceleration, McLaren developed an incredibly advanced brake system with front calipers patterned after those found an F1 racecar.
While the cabin has some of the feel of a true racecar, including the carbon-fiber seats and control layouts, it also addresses the occupants’ needs for some creature comforts. You’ll find dual-zone climate controls, infotainment system with Bluetooth, and even the optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
Just like its namesake, this 2019 McLaren Senna is a marvelous creation. When it crosses the block at the Broad Arrow Amelia Auction this weekend it’s estimated to capture a top bid of over $1,000,000.
