McLaren Speedtail Expected to Top $2.3 Million at Upcoming Miami Auction

A rare McLaren Speedtail hypercar is expected to command more than $2.3 million when it crosses the auction block later this month in Miami, highlighting continued demand for the British brand’s most ambitious creations. One of just 106 examples built, the Speedtail represents a focused effort by McLaren to prioritize aerodynamic efficiency above all else, resulting in a striking design and elite performance credentials.

Positioned within McLaren’s Ultimate Series, the Speedtail served as the automaker’s flagship model during the early 2020s. The hybrid powertrain pairs a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with an electric motor to deliver a combined 1,035 horsepower and 848 pound-feet of torque. Before the introduction of its successor in 2024, it stood as the most powerful and fastest McLaren ever produced, reaching a top speed of 250 mph.

The Speedtail’s design reflects its engineering priorities. Measuring roughly 17 feet long, the teardrop-shaped body was developed to maintain clean airflow across the surface and reduce drag. The centrally positioned driver layout recalls historic racing machines, while modern solutions address aerodynamic performance. Flexible carbon fiber rear ailerons bend upward through hydraulic actuators, eliminating traditional hinges and shutlines. Static carbon fiber front wheel covers and retractable camera systems replacing side mirrors further reduce turbulence.

Performance remains a defining feature. While its acceleration to 62 mph has been eclipsed by newer models, the Speedtail still holds a notable benchmark with its 12.8-second sprint to 186 mph. Only a handful of hypercars, including models from Bugatti, Koenigsegg, and Rimac, have exceeded that figure.

The example headed to auction carries an estimated hammer price between $1.95 million and $2.35 million ahead of its February 27 sale date in Miami. That range sits near, but not consistently above, its original $2.25 million retail price, suggesting values have fluctuated in the years since its debut. Still, its rarity, design focus, and hybrid performance continue to position the Speedtail as one of the most distinctive hypercars of its era.
