A 31-year-old man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after police in Orland Park arrested him in connection with a stolen luxury vehicle traced back to Texas.
Authorities said officers discovered a 2023 Rolls-Royce parked without license plates Saturday in the parking lot of Papa Joe’s Italian Restaurant. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time. A check of its identification number revealed it had been reported stolen Jan. 24 in Fort Bend County, Texas.
Police monitored the car while waiting for someone to return. Investigators said the man, identified as Husamuldeen Abed, later approached the vehicle, unlocked it using keys and entered. Officers then took him into custody at the scene.
Witnesses told police they recognized Abed as the same person who had parked the Rolls-Royce in the lot earlier that day. During the arrest, officers also recovered an Illinois license plate reported stolen and registered to a 2006 Audi, along with hardware commonly used to attach license plates to vehicles.
Further investigation determined the Rolls-Royce had been stolen while in transit. Police said the car was being shipped from Texas to North Carolina when it was taken.
Abed was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class 1 felony, and possession of stolen property, a Class A misdemeanor.
Following his arrest, Abed was taken in for an initial court appearance and later released. Authorities said he is scheduled to appear again Tuesday at the Bridgeview Courthouse as the case proceeds.
The incident highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in tracking stolen high-end vehicles that move across state lines and through shipping channels. Police have not released additional details about the broader investigation or whether other individuals may be connected to the case.
