A $1.9 Million RUF SCR Tests the Upper End of the Modern Collector Market

A highly exclusive 2018 RUF SCR, one of just 70 modern examples built, has surfaced on the market with an asking price approaching $1.9 million, underscoring the growing appetite for rare 911-based performance cars.

Offered for £1,375,000, or about $1,872,000 at current exchange rates, the Birch Green coupe represents the first customer-delivered example of the revived SCR, carrying VIN 002. The car is currently listed on Pistonheads and shows 9,000 miles on the odometer, a relatively high figure for a limited-production vehicle of this stature.

RUF, the German manufacturer closely associated with high-performance Porsche-based models, first introduced the SCR nameplate between 1978 and 1981. The original was based on the 911SC and powered by an upgraded 3.2-liter flat-six producing 212 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. At a time when a standard 911 Carrera made less than 200 horsepower, the SCR carved out a niche between Carrera variants and the Turbo, helping establish RUF’s reputation before the arrival of the famed CTR, also known as the Yellowbird.

Four decades later, RUF revived the SCR to mark the model’s 40th anniversary. Revealed in 2018, the modern version is not built on a traditional 911 chassis but instead features a bespoke carbon fiber structure developed in-house. Power comes from a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six derived from a contemporary GT3 RS, tuned to deliver 503 horsepower and 347 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.

Originally priced at around $800,000, all 70 units were quickly spoken for. This particular example is equipped with a front axle lift system, variable exhaust, KW V5 coilover suspension, carbon seats and extensive brown deerskin Alcantara trim.

With its early VIN designation and limited production run, the SCR has become one of the rarest modern RUF models, and its current asking price reflects both its exclusivity and growing collector appeal.
