Honda is launching a new initiative aimed at preserving some of its most historically significant vehicles, starting with one of its most celebrated performance cars. The automaker has announced the Honda Heritage Parts program in the United States, beginning with reproduction and redevelopment of parts for the first-generation NSX.
Originally introduced in 1990, the NSX quickly became one of the most influential performance cars produced by Honda and its luxury division, Acura. Designed to compete with contemporary Ferrari models, the NSX combined advanced engineering with everyday usability. One of its defining technical features was the inclusion of VTEC technology, which helped deliver strong performance while maintaining efficiency and reliability.
Development of the NSX also involved extensive testing and refinement, including contributions from legendary Formula One driver Ayrton Senna. The result was a supercar that stood out for its balance of performance, precision handling, and durability. The model remained in production for an extended period, with its first generation and subsequent facelift spanning 15 years before the car was discontinued in 2005.
Throughout that run, the NSX served as a flagship performance model and a symbol of Honda’s engineering capabilities. Many of its innovations influenced later vehicles from both Honda and Acura, including the development of the second-generation hybrid NSX and other future performance-focused models.
The new Heritage Parts program is designed to help maintain vehicles like the original NSX by ensuring owners can still obtain critical components. The initiative operates as part of Honda Heritage Works, a broader effort to support historic vehicles from the brand’s past.
Honda Heritage Parts will include two types of components. Honda Compatible Parts consist of newly redeveloped components designed to function with the original vehicle. Genuine Honda Reproduction Parts are produced using the same methods and materials as the original components.
Owners of the first-generation Acura NSX in the United States will be able to order these parts through Acura dealerships beginning this summer. Honda is also evaluating the possibility of expanding the program to include additional Honda and Acura performance models in the future.
