Christie’s recently removed a 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Coupé, allegedly once owned by actress Angelina Jolie, from its upcoming “Exceptional Sale” in Paris. Originally slated as a headline lot for the November 20 auction, the Pininfarina-designed Ferrari was expected to fetch between $660,000 and $880,000. However, questions about its provenance prompted Christie’s to pull the car from the sale, leaving collectors and fans wondering about its true ownership history.
The situation began to unravel after Ferrari enthusiasts on the Ferrari Chat forum raised doubts about Jolie’s connection to the car. Members pointed out that Jolie may never have owned the black 250 GT Coupé, a vehicle originally painted white. The car’s most recent verifiable history traces back to a 2015 RM Sotheby’s auction and subsequent listing by Copley Motorcars in Boston. Barchetta.cc, an online Ferrari archive, still lists Copley as the vehicle’s last known owner, further casting doubt on the auction listing’s accuracy.
Christie’s has claimed the Ferrari belongs to Jolie, though it has yet to provide photographic proof or ownership documentation. In response to these uncertainties, Jolie’s team requested the car’s withdrawal from the sale. A Christie’s spokesperson stated, “At the request of Ms. Jolie’s team, Christie’s will not offer this lot at auction in November, to better position the lot for future sale.”
This isn’t the first time Jolie has put valuable items up for auction—she sold a painting gifted by Brad Pitt in 2021 for over $10 million. However, it remains unclear if the Ferrari was a similar gift or part of her personal collection. For now, enthusiasts will have to wait until the car’s provenance is clarified before it reappears on the auction circuit.
