Award-Winning 1983 Lamborghini Countach 5000 S Set to Dazzle at Monterey

A rare, carbureted 1983 Lamborghini Countach 5000 S, fresh from $36,000 in specialist servicing and boasting concours-winning pedigree, will cross the block at Monterey 2025 as part of the prestigious RM Sotheby’s auction—offered without reserve.

The supercar is the 269th of only 321 examples built during the 5000 S’s brief production run from 1982 to 1984. Finished in its original Bianco (white) over black leather, this Italian-market example was imported new to the U.S. and has traveled just over 37,000 kilometers (approximately 23,000 miles) since delivery.

More than four decades after it first stunned enthusiasts with its radical design and mid-mounted 4.8-liter V-12, the Countach remains one of the most iconic expressions of 1980s performance and excess. With its flared wheel arches, six Weber carburetors, and longitudinal engine layout, the 5000 S introduced improved responsiveness by delivering 375 horsepower 1,000 rpm earlier than its predecessor.

Certified by Lamborghini Polo Storico in June 2025, this example retains its numbers-matching engine, transmission, and rear axle. The current owner invested significantly in its preservation, including a full engine rebuild using rare factory pistons and hardware, performed by JE Robison Service in Massachusetts. Their meticulous work earned this Countach a 1st Prize trophy in the Modern Classics class at the 2017 Concours d’Elegance of America.

Recent work includes a suspension refresh, front brake replacement, new tires, and an authentic exhaust muffler—ensuring the vehicle is as thrilling to drive as it is to admire.

With known ownership from new and over two decades of service documentation included, this meticulously preserved Lamborghini represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for collectors. When the gavel falls in Monterey, one lucky bidder will drive home not just a car—but a legend.
