When the Countach arrived on the automotive scene it set things on fire, forcing many to rethink what they considered to be exotic beauty. The supercar enjoyed a long production run, with the 5000 QV released just over a decade into it. Now you can enjoy this iconic car in your collection because a beautiful example is headed to auction soon.
This model Countach costs more than some new cars.
The 5000 QV constituted a much-needed mid-cycle refresh for the Countach, although the cosmetics of the supercar were largely left untouched.
Despite its popularity, the Countach 5000 QV wasn’t a high-production model with just 610 made. That makes each one highly sought after on the market today, so many will be vying for the chance to own this one.
Lamborghini not only refreshed the looks of the Countach with the 5000 QV, it also pumped up performance to match. Displacement for the growling V12 was increased from 4.8 liters to 5.2 with horsepower peaking at 449, a lofty number for the time. To help produce that kind of power, four valves were included for each cylinder, hence the QV standing for Quattrovalve.
Eventually, the introduction of the Countach 25th Anniversary Edition meant the end of the 5000 QV, helping to ensure the rarity and collectability.
This particular one was manufactured late in the production run, hence it has the side skirts with vents for directing air to the rear brakes for additional cooling. Originally sold in Germany, it was soon after shipped to the UK, successfully being registered for road use.
The seller is including documentation of the 1988 Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV’s history and servicing. With the odometer reading just 40,473 km this is a pristine example which has been used sparingly over the years. While it needs some cosmetic touch-ups, such as on the steering wheel, overall it looks to be in fantastic condition.
This supercar will cross the block at RM Sotheby’s Monaco event in late April. See the lot listing for yourself here.
