Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bob Seger, known for his powerful music and connection to American cars, once had a soft spot for a European exotic. His 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS, which he owned during his rise to stardom in the mid-1970s, is now up for auction on Bring a Trailer, offering fans and collectors the chance to own a piece of automotive and rock history.
The Dino 246 GTS is not your average Ferrari. Named after Enzo Ferrari’s late son, Dino, the model represented a significant departure for Ferrari. It was powered by a 2.4-liter V-6 engine rather than the marque’s hallmark V-12s. With a trio of Weber carburetors, it produces 189 horsepower and 166 ft-lbs of torque, pushing the car to a top speed of 146 mph. Designed as a semi-convertible, it features a removable roof panel, combining elegance and open-air driving.
Seger’s Dino, chassis no. 0600, originally left the factory in a rare Verde Scuro (Dark Green) but was repainted Rosso Chiaro (Bright Red) after the rocker sold it in the 1980s. The interior retains its classic beige leather, equipped with period touches like a Borletti air conditioner, a Becker radio, and power windows. The car has traveled 65,000 miles, showcasing both its use and well-maintained legacy, including a restoration in the UK earlier this decade.
Seger acquired the car during his rise with the Silver Bullet Band, making this Dino a tangible piece of his storied career. The auction on Bring a Trailer runs until Monday, November 25, with bidding already surpassing $305,000 at the time of writing.
For collectors, enthusiasts, or simply Seger fans, this Ferrari Dino 246 GTS isn’t just a car—it’s a chapter in rock history, waiting to hit the open road once more.
