Bonhams is set to auction a significant piece of Porsche history—a 1998 Porsche 911 Type 993 Turbo, known as “The Last Waltz.” This iconic vehicle holds a special place in the automaker’s legacy as the last air-cooled 911 produced during the 993 model’s original run at the Zuffenhausen factory.
Commissioned by German author Clauss Vanderborg, the car was personalized through Porsche’s Sonderwunsch (Special Wishes) program. Finished in Ocean Blue and featuring a 443-hp engine similar to the Turbo S, it also boasts an entirely Night Blue leather-trimmed interior. Vanderborg, a close friend of Ferry Porsche, added a commemorative plaque in honor of the founder, making the car even more distinctive.
Completed on March 27, 1998, the day Ferry Porsche passed away, “The Last Waltz” remained at the factory for six months for customization, making it the final air-cooled 911 delivered to a customer. With only 11,000 kilometers on the odometer, the car has been carefully preserved by collectors in Japan, Belgium, and the UK.
The auction will take place on September 7 at Goodwood Revival, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Turbo. The estimated sale price is £800,000 GBP (approx. $1,050,000 USD), making this a must-watch event for automotive enthusiasts.
