BYD’s Yangwang U9 Jumping Supercar Reaches 100 Deliveries in Just Five Months

The Yangwang U9, a groundbreaking electric sports car from BYD’s luxury brand Yangwang, has achieved a significant milestone, delivering 100 units within just five months of its launch. Priced at 1,680,000 yuan ($229,700 USD), the U9 has quickly established itself as a unique contender in the high-performance supercar market.

Launched in February 2024, with deliveries beginning in September, the U9’s monthly sales have steadily increased, culminating in 19 units delivered by mid-January 2025. According to Yangwang, the U9 is the first Chinese supercar to reach this sales volume, a remarkable feat considering its steep price tag and innovative features.

The Yangwang U9 boasts a peak power output of 960 kW (1,287 hp) from four electric motors and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds. Its top speed of 391.94 km/h was demonstrated during a record-setting Nurburgring lap of 7 minutes, 17.900 seconds in November 2024. Equipped with an 80 kWh LFP battery, the U9 offers a range of 465 km under CLTC conditions and supports rapid charging, going from 30% to 80% in just 10 minutes.

What truly sets the U9 apart is its innovative Disus X suspension and hydraulic system, allowing the car to jump, dance, and even balance on three wheels. This feature, while captivating, has led to legal concerns, with drivers fined for using it on public roads.

Despite its hefty curb weight of 2,475 kg, the U9’s engineering triumphs have made it a popular choice among enthusiasts. Competing against rivals like the GAC Hyptec SSR, the U9’s success is bolstered by aggressive marketing and groundbreaking technology, cementing its position as a pioneer in the luxury electric sports car market.
