Chassis No. 001 Bugatti Bolide Heads to Pebble Beach Auction With $6M Estimate

One of the most extreme hypercars ever built is set to cross the auction block this August at Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach sale, where the very first production Bugatti Bolide will be offered with an estimated value of up to $6 million.

Chassis No. 001 of the 40-unit Bolide production run will mark the model’s auction debut during Monterey Car Week, one of the world’s premier automotive events. With just 389 miles on the odometer, this all-carbon, track-only machine is the first customer-delivered Bolide and represents the pinnacle of Bugatti’s W-16 performance legacy.

“The Bolide is the ultimate engineering exercise for Bugatti,” said David Brynan, senior specialist at Gooding Christie’s. “It’s rare to see a vehicle that pushes the limits in every measurable way, and being the first of its kind only adds to its historical importance.”

Unveiled as a concept during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and officially launched in 2023 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Bolide is powered by Bugatti’s 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W-16 engine, tuned to deliver 1,578 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque. It weighs just 3,196 pounds (dry) and boasts staggering performance—0 to 62 mph in 2.2 seconds and a top speed of 236 mph.

Aerodynamic innovation defines the Bolide, with Bugatti claiming nearly three tons of downforce at high speeds, thanks to an active rear wing and aggressive bodywork. Massive carbon-carbon brakes—reportedly the largest Bugatti has ever produced—enable the car to decelerate from 186 mph to zero in just 6 seconds.

Only 40 Bolides will ever exist, and Bugatti has ceased production of its W-16 powertrain as it transitions to hybrid technology, making this model a swan song of internal combustion performance.

The auction takes place August 15–16, and experts anticipate fierce bidding for what could become one of the most valuable Bugattis ever sold publicly.
