Two of Britain’s most recognizable postwar sports cars will highlight Freije & Freije Auctioneers’ Fall Big Boy Toy Auction later this month. A 1954 Jaguar X-Type convertible and a 1960 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite are both slated to cross the block on September 26 in Clayton, Indiana, offering bidders a glimpse into two very different chapters of British motoring history.

The 1954 Jaguar, finished in red, represents the postwar elegance that helped cement the brand’s reputation in the United States. Powered by a 3.4-liter engine paired with a manual transmission, it channels the performance pedigree that Jaguar refined in the XK series. These early Jaguars were known for their combination of sleek styling, competitive pricing, and surprising performance, and they quickly became favorites among sports car enthusiasts on both sides of the Atlantic. While bidding is set to begin at just $5, the car carries a reserve and is expected to draw strong interest from collectors looking for a vintage Jaguar that reflects the brand’s golden age.

Joining it is the 1960 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite, one of Britain’s most approachable and beloved roadsters. Finished in green with an inline four-cylinder engine and manual transmission, the Sprite embodies lightweight driving fun. Its nickname “Bugeye,” derived from the distinctive headlamp placement, has become synonymous with charm. Though its odometer shows just 3,740 miles, auctioneers note the mileage is not actual. With its simple mechanics and instantly recognizable design, the Sprite appeals to both seasoned collectors and new enthusiasts seeking a gateway into classic sports cars.
Both vehicles will be offered with a 10% buyer’s premium and are sold as-is. For enthusiasts of British motoring history, the Fall Big Boy Toy Auction presents a rare chance to acquire two icons from an era when open-top roadsters ruled the roads.
