Custom Koenigsegg Regera Under Development for FIA President Ben Sulayem

Koenigsegg is creating a bespoke, one-off version of its Regera hypercar for FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, adding another highly exclusive project to the collection of the well-known automotive enthusiast. Details of the car emerged after Ben Sulayem discussed the project publicly following laps at the Dubai Autodrome.

Ben Sulayem, who already owns a one-off Koenigsegg Chimera, is working directly with the Swedish manufacturer on a Regera unlike any previously produced. The car began life as a standard Regera, one of two examples currently owned by Ben Sulayem, before being selected for an extensive transformation by the Koenigsegg Legends Division.

The vehicle in question is Regera chassis number 7191, finished in green carbon fiber. The most significant change is the removal of the model’s hybrid system, converting the car into a pure internal-combustion machine. With the hybrid components removed, the Regera will rely solely on its twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

That engine is also receiving substantial modifications. The upgraded V8 is expected to produce approximately 1,600 horsepower, a notable increase over the standard configuration. The result is a Regera that departs fundamentally from the model’s original hybrid identity while pushing performance further than before.

Another major change involves the transmission. Koenigsegg’s Engage Shift System, first introduced on the CC850, is being adapted for this Regera. The system allows the car to operate with a manual transmission derived from the CC850, while also retaining the ability to switch to Koenigsegg’s Light Speed Transmission automatic mode. This dual-function setup makes the car mechanically unique within the Regera lineage.

The project reinforces Koenigsegg’s reputation for accommodating highly personalized builds, particularly for long-standing clients. Ben Sulayem is recognized as a serious collector with a history of commissioning singular vehicles from the brand, and this Regera continues that pattern.

While full details and final specifications have yet to be revealed, the car is expected to debut publicly in the near future. Once completed, the one-off Regera will stand as a singular expression of Koenigsegg engineering, blending extreme power, unconventional transmission technology, and the personal vision of one of motorsport’s most influential figures.
