Ferrari Sets Sail With Zero-Emission Hypersail Yacht Aimed at Revolutionizing Offshore Racing

Ferrari, the iconic Italian marque best known for dominating race circuits with its signature red Hypercars, is entering uncharted waters — quite literally. The company unveiled its first-ever sailing initiative this week: the Ferrari Hypersail, a high-performance, fully sustainable, 100-foot foiling monohull designed for offshore competition.

Developed in partnership with acclaimed naval architect Guillaume Verdier and under the leadership of veteran sailor Giovanni Soldini, Hypersail marks Ferrari’s debut in the world of competitive sailing. The program merges cutting-edge marine engineering with the company’s longstanding motorsport expertise, particularly from its endurance racing program.

“This project represents the ultimate expression of endurance and innovation,” said Ferrari Chairman John Elkann. “It reflects our racing DNA while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on the open sea.”

The Hypersail yacht will operate entirely without fossil fuels, powered exclusively by wind, solar, and kinetic energy. Aboard will be no combustion engine — a rarity even in top-tier sailing. All energy for propulsion systems, onboard electronics, and foil controls will be self-generated, a feat the team calls a “radical rethinking” of ocean racing.

Construction is currently underway in Italy, with sea trials planned for 2026.

The vessel’s design features a groundbreaking foil setup — including a canting keel foil — that will allow the monohull to “fly” across the ocean with minimal drag. It incorporates flight control systems derived from Ferrari’s Formula One and Le Mans racing programs, and Ferrari confirms at least nine patents have already been filed, with more in development.

Soldini, serving as team principal, praised the collaboration, calling the Hypersail “a revolutionary machine” that blends “extreme performance with real-world durability.”

Ferrari says the Hypersail initiative is a cornerstone of its open-innovation strategy, emphasizing cross-industry technology transfer and long-term sustainability — both at sea and on the road.
