Ferrari is pushing ahead with plans to expand its testing capabilities with a new 2-kilometer test track located near its iconic Fiorano circuit. According to recent reports, the new circuit is designed to test Ferrari’s upcoming supercars, including its latest electric models, as part of the company’s commitment to innovation and performance. This development follows the opening of Ferrari’s new e-building, where the marque is developing future electric vehicles.
The new track will serve two primary purposes. First, it will provide a controlled environment for final testing of Ferrari models before they are delivered to customers. This approach eliminates the need to use public roads for these critical tests, ensuring that the vehicles are ready for real-world driving. Second, the track will offer a discreet space to test unreleased prototypes, keeping future Ferrari designs hidden from prying eyes. To protect the confidentiality of these vehicles, the circuit will be equipped with visual barriers to deter car spotters.
Spanning an impressive 120,000 square meters, with the potential to expand to 128,000 square meters, the track is designed to handle a wide range of testing scenarios. Key features include a raised curve for high-speed driving at a constant speed of 75-80 mph over one kilometer, as well as a 500-meter straight stretch capable of supporting speeds up to 62 mph. The design also simulates normal driving conditions found on non-urban roads, offering a realistic testing ground for Ferrari’s engineers and drivers.
Additionally, the circuit will include a 1,000 square meter workshop for maintenance and adjustments during testing. While no official completion date has been announced, Ferrari’s new test track promises to be a critical asset in the company’s pursuit of performance excellence, particularly as it ventures into the world of electric supercars.
