Ford has always been synonymous with automotive innovation and performance. Continuing its legacy, the automaker has introduced the Mustang GTD, a $325,000 supercar designed to rival the world’s best. This track-ready, street-legal marvel is turning heads not only for its performance specs but also for a unique feature: a special window that displays its advanced suspension system.
Jim Owens, the Mustang GTD marketing manager, emphasized the visual appeal of the rear suspension, accentuated with blue and gold colors, which can be admired through a polycarbonate window. This 24-inch by 10-inch window offers a glimpse into the heart of the GTD’s engineering, showcasing the suspension’s intricate details akin to a finely crafted luxury watch.
The Mustang GTD, designed for both track and street use, boasts an inboard rear suspension—a first for the Mustang line—along with active aerodynamics, a carbon-fiber body, magnesium wheels, and a rear transaxle. The vehicle’s suspension system features Multimatic’s Adaptive Spool Valve (ASV) dampers, capable of switching from soft to firm in just 15 milliseconds. This adaptive damping provides a balance between comfort and handling, with a dual-spring setup that adjusts the spring rate and lowers the car by 40 millimeters in Track mode.
Set to debut at prestigious events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 24 Hours of Spa, and the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Mustang GTD aims to make a significant impact. Additionally, Ford has ambitious plans for the GTD to achieve a sub-seven-minute lap at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, cementing its status as the ultimate track-capable Mustang.
The Mustang GTD not only promises exceptional performance but also a visual treat for car enthusiasts. The polycarbonate suspension window allows for an unobstructed view of the car’s semi-active pushrod-actuated suspension, adorned with blue and gold, machined components. This unique feature enhances the car’s appeal, making it a centerpiece for gearheads to marvel at.
Ford’s commitment to innovation is evident in the Mustang GTD’s development. The showcased photos even reveal some ongoing development work, such as zip ties holding a yellow K-type thermocouple for recording damper surface temperature and a heat-activated sticker as a visual indicator.
The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is set to redefine performance with its advanced engineering and unique features. Starting at $325,000, it’s clear that this Mustang isn’t just about raw power but also about showcasing the pinnacle of automotive technology and design. As the GTD prepares for its official timed lap attempt around the Nürburgring, the world will soon witness the full extent of Ford’s latest masterpiece.
