Excitement is building for Broad Arrow Auctions’ upcoming The Porsche Auction in partnership with Air|Water since it boasts a tremendous lineup of cars. One of the most impressive is a 1969 Porsche 908/02 Langheck Flunder Spyder, a racecar which is instantly familiar to anyone who’s a fan of Stuttgart’s endurance racing history.
People are shocked to find out how much it costs to maintain an Aston Martin Valkyrie.
It’s not often enthusiasts get to bid on a racecar with such an impressive history. A number of racing stars sat behind the wheel in some of the biggest competitions, including Gerar Larrousse, Richard Atwood, Vic Elford, and Rudi Lins.
In fact, this very car captured 3rd overall in the memorable 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 when Porsche swept the podium with a 1-2-3 finish. It ran with the legendary Porsche 917s for Martini International Racing Team and so endeared many motorsports fans, cementing its place in history.
This car was fielded in other World Championship events during its heyday, like Sebring 12 Hours, 1000 Kilometers of Spa, Nurburgring 1000 Kilometers, and BOAC 1000 Kilometers.
That’s not all, because this racecar is also a famous movie car. It was featured in the filming of Le Mans, one of Steve McQueen’s greatest films that’s beloved by racing fans both young and old.
Chassis 908/02-005 has a well-documented history on top of its impressive racing career, so this is a collector’s dream come true. As mentioned earlier, it’s a rare occurrence when a racecar of this level of importance crosses the auction block anywhere.
Broad Arrow Auctions estimates when the gavel falls the high bid will land somewhere between $4,750,000 and $5,750,000. In other words, some very well-heeled collectors and enthusiasts should be showing up to the auction, gunning for this specific Porsche along with many others.
We’re excited to see how The Porsche Auction in partnership with Air|Water turns out. See this racecar’s lot listing here.
