A rare 1990 Ferrari F40, a symbol of automotive excellence and engineering prowess, has been unveiled from nearly twenty years of single ownership. With just under 11,500 miles clocked, this specimen is a tangible piece of Ferrari’s illustrious history, embodying the zenith of 1980s supercar design. As one of only 213 F40s tailored for the US market, its presence rekindles the excitement and awe that greeted its initial release.
Chassis number 86420, completed in September 1990, initially made its way to a proud owner in Florida before spending the last two decades with its current custodian in Texas. The car’s journey is well documented, with meticulous records maintained by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, underscoring its storied past and meticulous care over the years.
The Ferrari F40, famed for breaking the 200-mph barrier and marking the last Ferrari overseen by Enzo Ferrari himself, has not only been a sought-after collector’s item but also a benchmark for future marvels like the F50, Enzo, LaFerrari, and the SP3 Daytona. Its iconic status has only grown, solidifying its place as an essential piece in any Ferrari collection.
Despite its reverence and the careful stewardship it has enjoyed, the F40 has seen limited use in recent years, primarily residing in static storage. Consequently, the new custodian will have the opportunity to revive this masterpiece to its full glory, as it will require service work before it can reclaim the roads with its famed performance. Service records indicate a history of meticulous care, including a timing belt change in 2007, an oil change at Ferrari of Houston in 2010, and comprehensive maintenance in 2016 that encompassed a clutch replacement, seat refinishing, air conditioning system refresh, and an engine bay detailing.
This 1990 Ferrari F40 is not merely a vehicle; it is a legacy of Ferrari’s pioneering spirit and a testament to the enduring allure of Italian craftsmanship. As it seeks a new chapter with an enthusiast who appreciates its significance and potential, this F40 stands ready to continue its journey as a revered and awe-inspiring marvel of the automotive world.
