Koenigsegg is challenging Bugatti in the race for the world’s fastest car title, with its latest model, the Jesko Absolut, reportedly capable of reaching a staggering 311 mph. Recent tests and simulations have shown that this hypercar could surpass the current speed record held by Bugatti, making it a formidable contender in the supercar arena.

Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Poised to Break Speed Records

The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut, which first made a splash at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, is not just about its eye-catching design. Christian von Koenigsegg, the mastermind behind these high-performance machines, believes the Jesko Absolut has the potential to dethrone Bugatti as the fastest production car in the world.

During rigorous testing and advanced simulations, the Jesko Absolut demonstrated it could reach 311 mph without hitting its redline, suggesting there is still untapped speed potential. The car’s impressive performance is attributed to its 5.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, which delivers a jaw-dropping 1,600 horsepower on E85 fuel, coupled with a Koenigsegg-designed 9-speed automatic transmission known as the Light Speed Transmission.

Von Koenigsegg revealed that their tests included using a chassis dynamometer, accounting for tire rolling resistance, car drag, and load at high speeds. The simulations indicated that the car could achieve these speeds in ninth gear before encountering the rev limiter. However, real-world conditions might differ, particularly due to factors like natural airflow cooling the intercoolers and radiators, and tire limitations at such extreme speeds.

The Challenge of Finding the Perfect Track

Despite the promising simulations, von Koenigsegg emphasized the difficulty in finding a suitable stretch of road that is both long enough and safe for such high-speed runs. While they have conducted wind tunnel tests and have a supercomputer simulator, translating these conditions to a real-world track remains a significant hurdle.

The Jesko Absolut is designed to be the fastest car Koenigsegg will ever produce. The company plans to make a production car speed-record attempt in 2024, confident in their cutting-edge engineering and rigorous testing.

In the ongoing battle for speed supremacy, the Jesko Absolut’s potential 311 mph run could set a new benchmark, pushing the boundaries of what hypercars can achieve and solidifying Koenigsegg’s place at the forefront of automotive innovation.
