According to The Auto Wire, the Lamborghini Jalpa, a vehicle not typically known for its drag racing prowess, has achieved an astonishing feat by running an 8-second quarter mile. This remarkable transformation was recently showcased on the YouTube channel Fullboost, capturing the attention of car enthusiasts and drag racing fans alike.

The Jalpa, originally introduced in the 1980s with a modest 3.5-liter V8 engine producing around 255 horsepower, was never designed for straight-line speed. However, the owner of this particular Jalpa has turned it into a drag racing beast through extensive modifications. The most significant change is the engine swap, replacing the original V8 with a highly popular LS engine. Known for its versatility and power, the LS engine is a favorite among car modifiers, and it has played a crucial role in enhancing the Jalpa’s performance.

To further boost the power output, the owner installed a twin-turbo setup, significantly increasing the vehicle’s horsepower and making it far more formidable on the drag strip. This setup takes the Jalpa from its original specs to a level that competes with modern high-performance vehicles.

What makes this build even more intriguing is the transmission choice. The owner opted for a transmission from a Toyota Camry, modified with parts from a GM Turbo 400. This unconventional choice might raise eyebrows, but it has proven effective in achieving the desired performance. The combination of these components has created a unique hybrid vehicle that defies traditional drag racing norms.

The journey to an 8-second quarter mile has been long and challenging for the owner, who has spent years fine-tuning and perfecting this build. The dedication and persistence have paid off, as the Jalpa recently achieved this milestone at the King of the Street weekend at Heathcote Raceway. This accomplishment is a testament to the owner’s passion and determination, choosing to stick with the Jalpa rather than taking an easier route with a more conventional drag car.

The video on Fullboost shows the moment this Lamborghini Jalpa breaks the 9-second barrier, marking a significant achievement in the world of modified cars. This transformation highlights the potential of creative engineering and the pursuit of performance excellence.
