Lamborghini is known for its roaring V-10 and V-12 engines, but the iconic automaker is preparing to usher in a new era of quieter, electrified performance. At the 2023 Monterey Car Week, Lamborghini gave the world a first look at its electric future with the reveal of the Lanzador concept, a high-riding 2+2 coupe set to debut as the brand’s first fully electric vehicle in 2028.

The Lanzador’s sleek design draws inspiration from the Espada, Lamborghini’s classic four-seater that will celebrate its 60th anniversary just as the production version of the Lanzador is expected to hit the market. Though it is not confirmed whether the production model will retain the Lanzador name, it has been made clear that the electric vehicle will become a new fourth model line for the brand, joining Lamborghini’s established supercar and SUV categories.

While Lamborghini has not provided specific details about the final powertrain, it has confirmed the concept will feature an electric motor at each axle, delivering all-wheel drive and a peak output of over one megawatt (roughly 1,341 horsepower). The system will be capable of distributing torque between the front and rear axles within milliseconds, as well as between the rear wheels for precise handling. This advanced powertrain will also allow for enhanced control on winding roads, further bolstered by the car’s active aerodynamics, rear-wheel steering, active suspension, and cutting-edge driving dynamics software.

In addition to electrified power, the Lanzador promises a range of at least 300 miles, with a spacious, comfortable interior capable of seating adults in the rear. Lamborghini has also embraced sustainability with its interior materials, incorporating recycled and eco-friendly components such as wool, leather, and materials derived from old fishing nets. Carbon-composite elements also use recycled materials, highlighting Lamborghini’s commitment to reducing environmental impact.

The production of the Lanzador will take place at Lamborghini’s plant in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, which will undergo expansion to accommodate the new vehicle line and production processes. As Lamborghini embarks on this electrified journey, the Lanzador marks an exciting shift toward a sustainable yet high-performance future for the luxury brand.
