Linda Perry Consigns Beloved 1967 Camaro SS Convertible to Barrett-Jackson Auction

Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Linda Perry is preparing to part ways with a deeply personal piece of automotive history. Her black 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport convertible is scheduled to cross the auction block in January at a Barrett-Jackson event, marking the end of a long relationship between artist and automobile.

The first-generation Camaro SS debuted in late 1966 as Chevrolet’s answer to the Ford Mustang, quickly establishing itself as a defining American muscle car. With bold styling, a low and aggressive stance, and a range of available V8 engines—including options from a 350 cubic-inch small-block to a 396 cubic-inch big-block producing up to 375 horsepower—the Camaro SS delivered both performance and presence. Its design language proved influential, shaping Camaro generations that followed.

Perry’s connection to the car runs far deeper than its specifications. She acquired the convertible after encountering it at a car show, drawn to its Super Sport configuration and manual transmission. Over time, the Camaro became a constant companion, woven into her daily life and creative world rather than stored away as a static collectible.

The car has also found a place in Perry’s artistic output. It appears in her documentary Let It Die Here, a project that evolved from informal studio footage into a full-length film. The Camaro’s inclusion reflects its role as more than transportation, serving instead as a visual extension of Perry’s identity and creative process. The project coincides with continued musical activity, including a new album planned for release in 2026 featuring a stripped-down reinterpretation of “Beautiful.”

After years of ownership, Perry decided the time was right to let the Camaro move on. She selected Barrett-Jackson as the venue to ensure the car would be offered to a community that understands and appreciates classic American performance cars. Encouragement from family in Arizona also played a role in her decision to choose the well-known auction house.

The sale is scheduled for opening night on January 17, marking Perry’s first experience participating in a major collector car auction. While stepping into unfamiliar territory, she is expected to attend in person, engaging with fellow enthusiasts and witnessing the next chapter for the Camaro unfold.

As the gavel falls, the Camaro SS will transition from celebrity-owned companion to its next caretaker, carrying with it both muscle car heritage and a unique personal history shaped by one of modern music’s most influential creative forces.
