Lotus is paying tribute to its illustrious Formula 1 legacy with the reveal of the Emira Limited Series, a collection of five special-edition Emira models inspired by the automaker’s most iconic race cars. Each design celebrates Team Lotus’s dominance in F1 during its golden era, honoring the achievements of legendary drivers like Jim Clark, Mario Andretti, and Ayrton Senna.
The Emira Limited Series features five unique liveries, each drawing inspiration from a famous Team Lotus F1 car:
- Type 25 (1963): Inspired by the car driven by Jim Clark to his first F1 title and Lotus’s Constructors’ Championship, this Emira is finished in Verdant Green with yellow stripes, evoking the original car’s classic livery.
- Type 72 (1977-1978): The Emira mirrors the Shadow Grey and gold scheme, complete with a half Union Jack graphic, honoring the Type 72 that secured seven Grand Prix victories in Lotus’s later years.
- Type 86 (1981): This special edition is painted in a deep blue with red and white stripes, paying homage to the pioneering one-off prototype that laid the foundation for the innovative Type 88.
- Type 97T (1985): The car Senna drove to his first Grand Prix victory comes alive in a dark Shadow Grey with gold graphics and the iconic number 12, reflecting Lotus’s racing success in the mid-1980s.
- Type 99T (1988): Celebrating Senna’s final full season with Team Lotus, this vibrant yellow-and-blue Emira mirrors the livery of the car that helped him finish third in the Drivers’ Championship.
Despite the visual differences, all five editions share the same heart. Each Emira Limited is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four sourced from Mercedes-AMG, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The engine delivers 360 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, enabling the Emira to sprint from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 171 mph.
Lotus will produce just 12 examples of each livery, totaling 60 units for the entire series. Starting at €98,107 (approximately $103,000), these exclusive models are available only in Europe, continuing the Emira’s elusive status for American enthusiasts.
