Mate Rimac Reacts to Bugatti Tourbillon’s Sound

Bugatti’s highly anticipated Tourbillon hypercar is set to break away from the brand’s traditional sound profile, and even the company’s CEO, Mate Rimac, is astounded by the car’s engine note.

Unlike its predecessor, the Chiron, which featured a W16 engine with a quieter, more reserved exhaust, the Tourbillon boasts a naturally aspirated V16 combined with plug-in hybrid technology. This innovative powertrain produces an aggressive, high-pitched shriek that reaches new heights of sound, with Rimac noting that the car’s exhaust note will be one of the defining features of the production version.

In a recent Instagram video, Rimac shared his excitement with fans, claiming, “I don’t think we understand yet what we have built. This will be one for the history books.” The clip, showing a prototype of the Tourbillon, captures the car’s seamless acceleration and the breathtaking engine sound that comes to life as the tachometer climbs toward redline.

With a combined 1,775 horsepower from the engine and three electric motors, the Tourbillon’s performance is just as remarkable as its sound. Rimac’s video shows the car gliding away from the camera in a smooth idle before unleashing a powerful surge of speed. Notably, the CEO emphasized that Bugatti aims to avoid using a soft rev limiter, allowing drivers to enjoy the car’s loud, uninterrupted roar from idle to its 9,000 rpm redline.

Despite the car’s prototype status, Rimac confirmed that the production Tourbillon will sound nearly identical to what was captured in the video.
