The issue stems from a problem with the bonding adhesive used to secure the polycarbonate rear window to the car’s carbon fiber frame. Several owners reported hearing a rattling noise from the rear of their vehicles, prompting investigations that revealed the adhesive had partially or completely failed in some cases. This failure increases the risk of the rear window detaching entirely, particularly at high speeds, posing a hazard to other vehicles and road users.
McLaren responded promptly to the safety concern, identifying a solution that replaces the adhesive bonding with physical fasteners to securely attach the rear window. The company has advised affected owners to avoid driving above 96 mph with the windows down until the repair is completed. The recall highlights the importance of thorough quality assurance even for top-tier performance vehicles like the 765LT, which can reach speeds exceeding 200 mph.
The 765LT, part of McLaren’s “Longtail” series, is revered for its lightweight construction, aerodynamic enhancements, and a 755-horsepower twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
