Mecum’s highly anticipated Indy 2025 auction is set to make headlines on Saturday, May 17, with two extraordinary McLaren machines from The Dave Frecka Collection—each representing the outer limits of modern performance and design.

First to cross the block is the 2023 McLaren Solus GT, No. 6 of just 25 produced by McLaren Special Operations. Developed to deliver a near Formula 1-level driving experience, the Solus is a single-seat, track-focused hypercar engineered around a naturally aspirated 5.0L V-10 engine producing 858 horsepower and 829 lb-ft of torque. With a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, 3D-printed titanium Halo system, and a 7-speed sequential gearbox, the Solus sprints from 0–62 mph in just 2.5 seconds.
Aerodynamics are equally extreme, with an aggressive twin-element rear wing, Venturi tunnels, and a massive front splitter, all contributing to staggering downforce. Built without compromise, it’s a purpose-built racer sold on a bill of sale, never intended for the street. With its fighter-jet looks and performance pedigree, the Solus GT stands as one of the most radical vehicles McLaren has ever produced.

Sharing the spotlight is the 2021 McLaren Elva Roadster, a radically open-air supercar that blends raw power with road-going elegance. This example, No. 122 of 149 produced, shows just 400 miles and features a bespoke iridescent Pacific Colourstream finish, part of over $102,000 in McLaren Special Operations options. At just 2,798 pounds, it’s the lightest road car McLaren has ever built.

Underneath its carbon fiber skin lies a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 producing 804 horsepower, paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission. Innovative features include the Active Air Management System (AAMS), carbon ceramic brakes, and an adaptive suspension system that blurs the line between track weapon and design sculpture.
While the Solus GT is a no-compromise track monster, the Elva offers a more refined—yet still ferociously fast—experience, honoring McLaren’s 1960s Can-Am roots with modern flair.
With just 25 Solus GTs and 149 Elvas ever built, both cars represent the pinnacle of McLaren’s technical and artistic capabilities. For collectors, May 17 at Mecum Indy offers a rare chance to acquire two of the most exclusive machines in the modern supercar world.
This vehicle is selling at Dana Mecum’s 38th Original Spring Classic May 9-17. Watch the action in person or on ESPN+. With 3,000 classic and collectors vehicles for sale, there’s a great selection!
