This ultra-exclusive SLR traces its origins back to 2005, when it was delivered new to a buyer in Tokyo. In 2017, the current owner commissioned McLaren Special Operations (MSO) in the UK to perform the complete “McLaren Edition” conversion—an upgrade package introduced after the standard SLR had ended production.

Although the car retains its 5.4-liter supercharged V8, MSO outfitted the vehicle with a bespoke aerodynamic body kit, enhanced suspension and steering components, and a lightweight titanium sports exhaust system. These upgrades were designed to refine both the SLR’s handling and overall performance, despite leaving the powertrain untouched.

Finished in a striking deep metallic red that appears black under certain lighting, the coupe also sports tinted headlights and windows, as well as distinctive wheels sourced from the SLR McLaren 722 S. Inside, the cabin features black Alcantara upholstery, red contrast stitching, and a numbered plaque marking its place among the 25 “McLaren Edition” cars ever produced.

Though the odometer reads over 17,500 miles, the car has traveled fewer than 750 miles since the conversion, suggesting minimal wear post-upgrade.

Born from a celebrated collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren, the SLR McLaren was originally introduced in 2003 as a luxurious yet high-performing grand tourer, inspired by the legendary 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe. Production continued until 2010, after which MSO launched the limited McLaren Edition program.

This specific example remains in Tokyo and is now available for immediate purchase through RM Sotheby’s, offering collectors a rare opportunity to own one of the most exclusive variants of a modern-day automotive icon.
