A 1996 Nissan Skyline GT-R NISMO S1-Specification is currently up for auction, offering buyers a rare chance to acquire one of Japan’s most recognizable performance cars in an eye-catching Midnight Purple finish.
The Skyline GT-R is a familiar sight in Japan but remains far less common in the United States, where it was never officially sold. Despite that, demand has remained strong through the import market, particularly as legal eligibility expands and collector interest continues to grow.

This example is being offered through Cars & Bids and features the NISMO S1 package, which adds several upgrades over the standard GT-R. Equipment included with the package and this car’s configuration consists of power locks and windows, automatic climate control, and a rear wiper. The car is right-hand drive and shows 115,500 kilometers on the odometer, equivalent to roughly 71,800 miles.
In addition to its factory specification, the car has been modified with a number of performance and cosmetic changes. Those include 18-inch racing wheels, a modified exhaust system, a Sony radio, and several additional NISMO components. Among those are a revised front bumper, NISMO seats, a different gauge cluster, and an upgraded air intake. Based on the listing photos, the changes appear cohesive and restrained, notable given the extensive modification culture surrounding Skyline GT-Rs.
Power comes from Nissan’s well-known 2.6-liter turbocharged inline-six engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission. From the factory, the engine was rated at 276 horsepower, though the listing notes that modifications may have increased output.
The Skyline GT-R lineage dates back to 1969, with multiple generations shaping its reputation. After a long hiatus, the GT-R name returned with the R32 in 1989, followed by the R33 in 1995. The NISMO S1-Specification was offered for the 1996 model year. The model reached peak notoriety with the R34, produced from 1999 through 2002.
While the most sought-after variants, such as the GT-R M-Spec Nür, regularly command six-figure prices, this NISMO S1 remains a desirable entry point into the Skyline legacy. Bidding currently sits at $79,500, with several days remaining and the potential to climb higher before the auction closes.
