One of the rarest and most heavily optioned McLarens ever built is set to steal the spotlight at Mecum’s Indy 2025 auction: the 2020 McLaren Speedtail XP3, a unique development car that embodies cutting-edge technology, extreme performance, and bespoke craftsmanship.

Crossing the block as Lot S155 on Saturday, May 17, this extraordinary Speedtail—chassis SBM23GDG5LW990006—is much more than a supercar; it’s a rolling prototype that helped shape McLaren’s revolutionary hyper-GT. Driven just 2,212 miles, XP3 is the only Speedtail fitted with a 1K titanium-infused tinted carbon fiber weave, a $560,000 option alone. This special finish, combined with its bespoke Modica Blue and Cerulean Blue exterior, makes it truly one of one.

Originally constructed as a McLaren XP (Experimental Prototype) vehicle, XP3 played a vital role in development testing, including contour pack design, TPT carbon fiber validation, electrical systems, and interior leather treatments. It features the Speedtail’s signature center driving position and three-seat configuration—a direct nod to the legendary McLaren F1.

Underneath its aerodynamic bodywork, the Speedtail is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 hybrid setup producing an astonishing 1,035 horsepower, paired to a 7-speed Graziano dual-clutch transmission. The aluminum adjustable multi-link suspension, carbon ceramic brakes with blue calipers, and innovative flexible carbon aerofoils ensure that XP3 delivers a driving experience as otherworldly as its design.

Among its many elite touches are a 24-karat gold heat shield (a $35,000 option), platinum badging, a wireless charging pad, and two original keys. Total factory options on this example exceeded $1 million, making it the most expensive Speedtail ever produced. See it here.
