A meticulously restored 1990 Ferrari F40, regarded as one of the finest U.S.-spec examples in existence, is set to cross the block at RM Sotheby’s this April with an estimated hammer price between $2.5 million and $2.9 million.

Offered as Lot 4 in the Sealed Drop auction, this stunning supercar—chassis no. 87031—is the 76th of only 213 U.S.-spec F40s ever built. It was originally delivered through Ferrari Los Gatos and built to “cat, adjust” specifications, including catalytic converters and adjustable suspension. Though its earliest history includes a dealership test-drive mishap, the car was rebuilt to factory condition and sold new in 1992 with a full factory warranty, officially retaining its new-car status per Ferrari.

Following years in California, the car passed to late Dallas attorney and racing enthusiast Keith Verges in 2009, who added roughly 4,000 miles. Verges, founder of the Apex Driving Academy, praised the car’s impeccable quality and integrity, even after the early repair work.

In 2014, the F40 changed hands to its current owner, a fellow racing aficionado, who commissioned a no-expense-spared restoration by Exoticars USA. The result? An F40 that not only dazzled at the 2018 Ferrari Club of America national meet—where it secured a Platinum award and the Ferrari of Exceptional Merit trophy—but also earned Ferrari Classiche certification in 2023, verifying it retains its original chassis, engine, and gearbox.

Now showing just under 17,000 miles, this F40 has only accrued around 1,500 miles in its current ownership. Described by FCA judges as among the most authentic examples in the country, chassis 87031 stands as a rare opportunity for collectors seeking concours-level provenance with a driving legacy to match.
