One of the most celebrated and rare Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweights—steeped in motorsport history and carrying an unbroken chain of enthusiast ownership—is set to headline RM Sotheby’s Sealed Drop auction in April. Estimated to fetch between £900,000 and £1,250,000, the 1973 Porsche, chassis number 9113600446, is a highly sought-after M471 “Sport” model and one of only 17 ever configured in right-hand drive.

Finished in Grand Prix White with blue accents and delivered new through AFN Limited, the car was originally commissioned by gentleman racer and classic car dealer Dan Margulies. It was purpose-built for competition, fitted with a limited-slip differential and heated rear window, and registered in the UK as PGF 270L.

Margulies immediately campaigned the car at the 1973 Targa Florio, partnering with veteran racer Andrew Hedges under the Comstock Racing banner. Against an elite field of entries, the duo finished an impressive 18th overall and fourth in class. The Porsche then made its way into the hands of Ulster rally driver Reggie McSpadden in 1975, before being sold to renowned Northern Irish enthusiast Esler Crawford the following year.

Crawford would retain the car for 31 years, during which it won the 1977 Ulster Rally in the hands of Derek Boyd and scored podium finishes at the Donegal and Manx rallies. Retired from active competition in 1978, it underwent a sympathetic restoration in the 1990s by Francis Tuthill and later joined a prestigious private collection in the UK.

With just five owners from new and a documented 52,300 miles, this RS 2.7 Lightweight is presented with an unmatched trove of provenance, including original race entry papers, AFN invoice, and Targa Florio memorabilia. Its originality is further underscored by a still-intact 1973 scrutineering sticker on the rear window.

Now restored to its period Comstock livery and eligible for top-tier historic events, this car is more than a collector’s prize—it’s a living artifact of Porsche’s golden age in motorsport. See it here.
