Porsche Developing Hybrid-Powered 911 Dakar for Off-Roading

Porsche is preparing to introduce a hybrid-powered version of its off-road-focused 911 Dakar, with a limited-production model expected to debut by the end of 2025. The move marks a significant step for the automaker as it continues to integrate hybrid technology into its performance lineup.

Development of the next-generation 911 Dakar is already underway at Porsche’s Weissach engineering center, according to reports. The new model will be based on the 992-series 911 and will incorporate the brand’s T-Hybrid system, the same electrified powertrain featured in the 911 Carrera GTS. This setup pairs a 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-six engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission and an integrated traction motor. The combined output is expected to reach 532 horsepower and 449 lb-ft of torque, offering improved performance both on and off the road.

While specific technical details have not been released, the hybrid system is expected to enhance efficiency without compromising the 911 Dakar’s rugged capabilities. The previous generation of the Dakar was designed for extreme off-road use, featuring a lifted suspension, reinforced bodywork, and all-terrain tires. The hybrid model is likely to retain these characteristics while incorporating updated technology and design elements.

The original 911 Dakar, introduced in 2023, paid homage to Porsche’s rally heritage, drawing inspiration from the company’s 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally victory. The model was produced in limited numbers and quickly became a collector’s item due to its combination of high performance and off-road versatility.

The upcoming hybrid version is expected to follow a similar path, offering an exclusive, electrified take on the off-road sports car concept. With Porsche’s ongoing investment in hybrid technology, the 911 Dakar Hybrid may provide a glimpse into the future of performance cars designed to handle both asphalt and rugged terrain.
