Bentley is gearing up for a momentous reveal in June when it will introduce the fourth generation of its Continental GT, the most powerful car in the marque’s illustrious history. This new model will be the first to feature Bentley’s innovative Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain, promising to redefine luxury and performance.

The British automaker announced on Thursday that the new Continental GT will come equipped with a state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid V-8 engine. This cutting-edge powertrain will deliver an astounding 771 horsepower and 737 ft-lbs of torque, surpassing the capabilities of its predecessors. At its initial unveiling last week, Bentley had hinted at “more than 740 hp,” but the confirmed figures exceed those expectations, cementing this model’s place as the most potent road car Bentley has ever produced.

The current Continental GT Speed, powered by a W-12 engine, produces 650 hp and 665 ft-lbs of torque, while the exclusive Batur coupé and convertible offer 740 hp and 738 ft-lbs of torque. The upcoming hybrid model not only eclipses these figures but also introduces a significant electric-only range of approximately 50 miles, ideal for urban driving and reducing emissions.

While Bentley has shared the impressive power output of the new hybrid V-8, other specifics remain under wraps. The exact specifications of the combustion engine, the placement of the electric motor, and the full impact on performance are yet to be disclosed. Additionally, the potential increase in weight due to the hybrid system, including the battery, which will add to the car’s current 5,000-pound frame, remains a topic of interest.

Bentley enthusiasts can look forward to the full debut of the new Continental GT next month. The introduction of the Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain is expected to herald a new era for Bentley’s lineup, blending traditional luxury with modern, eco-friendly technology. Although Bentley has adjusted its timeline for going fully electric by 2030, this hybrid powertrain marks a significant step in the company’s electrification journey.

Since its debut in 2003, the Continental GT has been a flagship model for Bentley, epitomizing the blend of performance, luxury, and craftsmanship that the brand is known for. The new generation is poised to elevate this legacy, setting new benchmarks in the luxury automotive sector.

As June approaches, the anticipation builds for Bentley’s groundbreaking reveal. The new Continental GT promises to deliver unmatched power and efficiency, reaffirming Bentley’s position at the forefront of luxury automotive innovation.
