A historically significant 1968 Porsche 911SR with deep roots in Canadian endurance racing will be offered without reserve at Henderson Auctions’ upcoming Collector Motor Series sale, taking place May 3 at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. With a provenance spanning factory race prep, podium finishes, and a national championship title, chassis 11800988 stands as a rare survivor from Porsche’s early Sports Purpose program.

Delivered new to Montreal racer Claude Humbert in June 1968, this Ossi Blue 911S was optioned with an array of competition-spec features outlined in Porsche’s Sports Purpose Handbook. Among them: a long-range fuel tank, Recaro driver’s seat, five-speed gearbox with a removable second gear cluster, and crucial weight-saving packages 9541 and 9542, which deleted insulation and undercoating. Period documentation, including a factory warranty disclaimer, confirms these upgrades were factory-applied.

Humbert campaigned the car extensively across Canada’s endurance circuit, logging over 35,000 race miles. His efforts culminated in a third-place finish at the 1969 Trois-Rivières Grand Prix, trailing only Canadian racing greats Jacques Duval and Jacques Bienvenue—the latter of whom would purchase the car in 1971. Bienvenue drove the 911SR to multiple GT-2 victories, including wins at Mont-Tremblant and the 1977 CASC National GT-2 Championship.

After years of competition, the car underwent a meticulous restoration under guidance from its original owner. It now features a period-correct magnesium 901/02 twin-plug engine upgraded to 911 R specifications and wears its 1977 race livery in tribute to its championship season.

With its factory racing pedigree, extensive documentation, and current mechanical readiness, this Porsche offers rare eligibility for historic motorsport events. A feature on the car is also slated for the May 2025 issue of Panorama, the official publication of the Porsche Club of America.

The Barber Museum and racing facilities have welcomed millions of hardcore vintage car and motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world making this venue the perfect backdrop to showcase your vehicles.
