A genuine piece of Shelby and Hertz history is about to make waves at The Dallas Classic collector car auction this November. Scheduled to cross the block on November 21, 2025, this 1966 Ford Shelby GT350H is one of the most recognizable and collectible muscle cars of the 1960s — and it’s one of the few that rolled out of Shelby American’s Venice factory with a four-speed manual transmission.
Finished in the unmistakable combination of black with gold racing stripes, this GT350H packs the legendary 289 cubic-inch Hi-Po V8 engine paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. Only 1,000 GT350H “Rent-A-Racers” were built for Hertz’s high-performance rental program, and of those, just 86 were equipped with the manual transmission — making this car one of the rarest and most desirable of them all.

The GT350H program was a marketing gamble that paid off big. In 1966, Hertz customers could rent one of these race-ready Shelbys for a weekend thrill, often taking them straight to the drag strip before returning them on Monday. Many came back with worn tires and swapped parts, but the legend of the “Rent-A-Racer” was born — and it remains one of the most fascinating stories in performance car history.

Today, surviving GT350H models represent an important chapter in the partnership between Carroll Shelby and the American car rental giant. This particular example, VIN 6S1415, carries that legacy forward and stands as a symbol of an era when performance and accessibility met in an unforgettable way.

With collector interest in original Shelbys still climbing and factory-documented Hertz cars among the most coveted, this Dallas Classic offering is sure to draw attention when bidding opens. See it here.
The auction takes place November 21 at 12 PM CT and November 22 at 10 AM CT at The Dallas Market Hall, and this Shelby could easily steal the spotlight.
